Parallel Worlds

The dance music echoes all around

I sit in the corner watching the girls go by

You catch my attention

I am transformed into another dimension

For a moment I leave the building and enter the stratosphere

You are dancing with friends

So enchanting, so desirable, so beautiful

You have the most adorable face

Which lights up the whole room

I hope you might look my way

But I never catch your gaze

Just another stranger at the bar

The night drags on

And I sip a few more drinks

Waiting for the chance to talk to you

But that moment will never come

You dance with other guys

And I know deep down you are out of reach

I slink off home

To finish off a few more bottles of wine

We live in different worlds you and I

Mine is cold and austere

Yours is warm and intoxicating

You are full of life

And I am full of cynicism

That’s just the way the cards were dealt

I keep hoping to find a way out

To move on up

And breathe in the clean air

To feel the breeze on my face

And the sense of freedom that comes with inner confidence

It came so naturally to you
